I am a retired US Marine and my job (with a California company) might be sending me to Shanghai for a couple of days. If I go there's a chance I'll be there on 10 November, which is the Marine Corps' 239th birthday.

Marines everywhere celebrate our creation on 10 November 1775.

How can I find if there are any US Marines in Shanghai? They might be retired there. There may be an organization of former Marines there and they'll be holding a Marine Corps Birthday Ball.

I've searched extensively but haven't found anything yet. Even if there isn't any Birthday Ball there, even it's just one other Marine and me raising a glass there in Shanghai, I'd like to do that. But first I need to find that Marine.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You might be better off an Shanghai Expat Message Board. I haven't encountered any US Marines living in Shanghai, who post on the Asia board.

TIME OUT SHANGHAI is a popular expat magazine . Perhaps there is a forum or message board you could inquire on.

Marine Guards are stationed at the US Consulate in Shanghai as well as the embassy in Beijing. There is always a Marine Ball in Beijing. Not clear about the consulate. If you're there you could call and find out. Since 911 security at all embassies and consulates has been tightened. In years past there was a pretty liberal policy about who could attend the ball but this has changed. Former US embassy Marine in SE Asia.
