I don't think there will be any effect. Singapore has developed and grown into an international powerhouse. I have visited a few times and was very impressed at how well Singapore is run.

it won't be affected much. What will be interesting will be when LHL steps down and Chan Chun Sing takes over. Unless LHL and Li Hongyi are very assertive, the Lee dynasty will be over. THAT is when things get interesting.

Yes you are right . It is pretty clear that chan chun sing is PAP's choice for the next PM if it had its way. Well another pt to note is LHL's brother eldest son LI Shengwu seems more keen to enter politics compared to LI HOngyi. So Shengwu may be the one from the Lee DYnasty to continue its reign rather than HOngyi.

Those who follow the Lee family close enough would know.

Chan Chun Sing have been appointed Minister for Prime Minister's Office a further indication that he will be the one chosen to be Singapore's Next PM that is if the PAP does not fall out of power..

initially it seems that there were 4 contenders for our next PM , Chan Chun Sing, Tan Chuan Jin, Heng Swee Keat and Lawerence Wong, but now it seems clearer it is now a 2 horse race between Chan Chun Sing and Tan Chuan JIN

All hail our next PM Mr Chan !!!

The founder passed away. But he already developed a wealthy country. I'm sure it will continue. Some changes will arrive maybe but what's already there will remain. It's the culture the founder of Singapore established.

LKY engineered the emergence of an educated, cosmopolitan, and wealthy city-state. The other side of that was his status as a (not-so)"soft authoritarian".

Singapore's social character (wealthy & educated) makes it a prime candidate for social and political liberalisation. IMO, it will be part of Singapore's future growth and evolution rather than a detriment. In weak states, facets of democracy like protests and contested elections can be fatal to stability. I don't see those scenarios playing out in Singapore.

Whatever you think of his iron hand style of leadership LKY and the PAP guided an insecure Singapore to the stable and prosperous society it is today. Something one could argue the country needed at the time but is past its use by date in modern Singapore.

The greater demand for political liberalisation in Singapore has been a slow moving trend in Singapore in the last couple of decades and I think it will continue, independent of LKY's death.
