it happened to me twice. As a Filipino from the northern part of the Philippines, dogs have 3 purposes: pet, guard/hunter and food
when I was in grade 4 , our pet just vanished. we don't leash them in the countryside. we later found out that some bad people dog-napped our dog and turned it into finger food
then when I was 20 years old, my mother sold it to our neighbor.
in both instances, I cried for those pets
dogs in northern Philippines are not really everyday fare. they are for special occasions
but as we become enlightened, butchering dogs are already prohibited. the law was passed 17 years ago
This is such a sad picture. This poor little girl's pet dog called Flower had gone missing several days before and she had been searching in vain for the animal. Then she had passed by a food stall and recognized the cooked animal immediately as her missing pet.
Vietnam has no respect for animals and eat both cats and dogs which is why I will never go there.
Personally, I'd never eat a cat or a dog. But I would never pass judgement on a country that does. Just as I appreciate that Indians don't pass judgement on our country for eating cows.

I don't know where you are from but I believe that the the vast majority of Americans due to cultural reasons view eating dog or cat as barbaric and do look down on people that do eat dog or cat.
I look at people who eat any meat as barbaric. If that was my dog, the owner of the "food" stand would be dead.
