Looking to get another Kindle (probably HD Fire) and looking to get comparative prices. Live in mainland China but will be traveling through Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and then California USA over the summer before I return. Where would be the best place to buy an Amazon Kindle? May also be interested in a small laptop - Dell or ASUS. One of the issues here in China is that all the software (Windows, etc) is in Chinese

Be careful if you are buying US products and you are living full time in China, our electric voltage is different. You would have to buy a transformer, and I am not sure how it would effect the longevity of the device. I wouldn't be surprised if the battery will crap out sooner. Anyway, you can check US prices on "amazon.com".

Actually we have lived here in China since last August and most devices seem to operate 110/220 without a problem. Main concern is getting a device that is reliabl and displays instructions/set up in English.. Amazon.cn delivers everything to us here but that one concern is making sure that text is in English not Chinese.

Don't know about China or Amazon Kindle, but FWIW . . .

In Korea, Samsung, LG electronics tend to be higher than the same item in US or Europe. Cheapest prices for cell/mobile phones will be in Netherlands, Austria, Germany. Just buy it outright there, will work in Asia and US. Most come with 2 SIM slots. (US has only single SIM slot.) Phablets/ereaders tend to be most affordable (IMHO) in the US.

YMMV.

If you're saying you can just buy a phone from Europe and take it to the USA, better check yo-self. Most operate on different radiofrequencies.

original request was whether it was cheaper to buy kindle in Hong Kong not US, not phones. Will just have to check out the electronic stores in HK and then see if worth getting it as opposed to buying one when in USA.
