You mean Leningrad/St. Petersburg (plus a few other places in the former USSR, like Sverdlovsk/Yekaterinburg).

They don't call them Myanmarese/Myanmarian.
Just change it back to Burma.

Weird. I visited Saigon, and most Vietnamese there also refer to it as Saigon.

My understanding has always been that HCMC is just the legal name, but that's about it. I've never heard a local refer to it as HCMC before.

Maybe this particular Vietnamese girl was from northern Vietnam, and had it quite ingrained that Saigon is called HCMC, and its possible that Nothern Vietnamese could be ingrained with more Ho Chi Mihn everything than an actual Saigon person would be? She probably lied and said 'HCMC', as she assumed it meant absolutely nothing to you if she were to say some random small town name.

Hi all, i'm from VietNam.

Saigon is the old name of Ho Chi Minh City from before the war. The place got re-named when the north took over the south in 1975. People still refer to it as Saigon just because its easier and full of people who grew up in Saigon.
