I don't think the Philippines is conservative by Asian standard. They elected a transgendered woman to their parliament for god's sake.

Japan is not conservative by Asian standard only because almost ALL other Asian countries are way worse.

I think the Filipino reputation comes because so many follow Catholic rituals. In daily social life the lifestyles do not follow lock step with Canon law

Well, Japan is famous for porn industry and hentai products.
Most Asians do not consider Japanese morally conservative.

On the other hand, Japan enforces gender roles much more than Chinese communities.

I'd say it's mostly moderate, actually. Moderation is key... maybe it's a Buddhist influence? Anyway. In contrast to many parts of east Asia or south Asia, Japan is quite modern and focused on global matters. It isn't like western Europe or the U.S., clearly. But I don't see it as a deeply conservative or ultra traditional country, really... just moderate.

The government recently made contraception available through public health care, going against the Church in the Philippines, who were strictly opposed to it. Manila's an enormous city and has been a busy regional hub for many decades. I wouldn't automatically think of Filipinos as being the most conservative culture in the region. In rural parts of the Philippines, I don't doubt that it's a different story.

Bhutan, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, even large parts of China... I have the impression that they are relatively traditional and conservative.

Japan is apathetic about politics not moderate. I have never seen a society like Japan where the citizen simply do not care at all about politics. In any other democracy, even the incredibly corrupt ones where vote rigging happens, a party like the Liberal Democratic Party would have been voted out of office a long time ago for its horrendous handling of the economy but instead it just keeps getting reelected over and over again. Even Chinese citizens would rebel against the CCP if they governed as poorly as the LDP.

As I and others have said before, Asian nations don't fit the same mold of "conservative" and "liberal" as western nations. And for that matter, it's not cookie-cutter even in the West.

On the other hand, Japanese have little interest in religion, there's definitely no Bible belt there. Also, they do understand sometimes spending tax money on public infrastructures makes perfect sense.
Trump has no common sense. The conservatives at the convention are the ones threatening violence.

Just another of your ridiculous posts..

Yes, I agree... "conservative" and "liberal" are western political spectrum designators, that aren't part of any Asian culture. A vague approximation could be made between traditional versus non-traditional Japanese culture, but those don't mean the same thing really.

Someone has said that Japanese are not interested in religion--don't agree with that. They don't thump the Bible like U.S.-style evangelicals. They have a different way of integrating spiritual practices into everyday life, but the Buddhist or Shinto influences are all around. Families still go to temple for the big occasions, and so on.
