South Korean tourists speak more in English and better English skills in other Asian countries such as Thailand and Vietnam than Japanese, mainland Chinese and Taiwanese tourists.

Generally speaking, mainland Chinese over 60 had never learned English in school. At that time the vast majority learned Russian.
My father taught himself English and can say some basic things. My mother can speak next to nothing. They both learned Russian.
