I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot of dead "suspects" who were "threatening" to the police.

Much to the delight of anti-Catholic Westerners, for sure.

Wonder if Duterte can do anything about the bullet scam that's been going on at Manila International Airport. For those who are not aware the local security people are planting ammo in the bags of travelers. You are pulled aside and accused of illegally transporting bullets. There is a speech about breaking the law and long prison sentences. However for a generous tip the accusations will go away and you will be free to leave the airport. I've heard of travelers shrink wrapping or duct taping their luggage to avoid the hassle.

It was even mentioned in the telserye Ang Probinsyano out of nowhere. Corrupt cops is a major plot of the show but that had nothing to do with the case they were on. It would take some sort of independent internal affairs which takes over such cases granting immediate parole to travelers even before checking all such smuggling cases. And then dropping the full fury down upon the cops for fake accusations to start to stop the new source of graft.

Is Duterte left-wing, right-wing, both, or neither?

oh my gahd!

this is very surprising. The incoming president is now going against the catholic church and the media. The 2 of the most glorified institutions in the country.

This itself is already a CHANGE!

"In southern Davao City, where Duterte was mayor for more than 20 years, rights groups documented a total of 1,400 unsolved murders from 1998, most of them petty criminals and street-level drug peddlers. Duterte denies any involvement."

Looks like he's endorsing the killing of journalists now..

""Just because you're a journalist you are not exempted from assassination, if you're a son of a *****," Duterte said when asked how he would address the problem of media killings in the Philippines after a reporter was shot dead in Manila last week."
