A guy like Duterte is scary because he is able to manipulate people to kill for him. I work with Filipinos that all like him because 'he is strong' but following a guy like that can lead to disaster....just ask Germany about Hitler or Russia about Stalin.

If there was any doubt about what Duterte meant by "crossing the Rubicon", it's pretty much settled now.

"In this venue, your honours, in this venue, I announce my separation from the United States. Both in military, not maybe social, but economics also. America has lost ... I will not go to America anymore. We will just be insulted there".

It would be hilarious if he genuinely believes that China could pull the Philippines out of poverty.

Well he has a 90% approval ratings from the Phillipine people and he has a record of clearing out drug lords in a previously infested city so whatever he's doing, must be good. The OP is not a Filipino citizen anyway so their opinion is irrelevant.

The majority of Filipinos support this guy. Those folks are very two-faced. This is a blessing in disguise for the US. Cut off ALL visas for Filipinos. Let them run to China to marry Chinese men and let's see how much money the Chinese will not pump into their economy.

The US has officially been given the middle finger after we had Manila's back over the disputed islands in the South China sea. I say end aid and pull our resources out. Close Clark AFB and Subic bay immediately and unbolt everything.

Philippines not really severing ties with US, Duterte says - CNN.com

I guess that after a couple days of cooling off, he realized he may have gone a bit too far. Again.

At least it has given us a bit of insight as to how it'd be to have Trump for president.
