Working at a school - it turns out that teachers with the same qualifications get paid differently depending on nationality - Those from Philippines make 50% of Western teachers, South Africans - 80%. I am curious how they get away with this for professionals -(

Because Filipinos and South Africans are willing to go to support families back at home.. Those wages being much more than comparable work pays in their home countries. The western teachers go more as a form of adventure travel and the local Arabs pay a premium to entice them to work there since they have a built in prejudice that they are better.

Even if the Filipinos strike to demand equal wages because of the built in western prejudice the Arabs are more likely to pay westerners more to entice more of them to work rather than to pay the Filipinos and South Africans more to have a number of workers. When they reach a peak on the number of westerners willing to work under their conditions there is no way to stop the others from accepting a lower wage to cut out a brother trying to get the same wage as a westerner.

They look at countries that have the best technologies and systems (North America, Europe, Japan, South Korea) and pay their people more than people coming from nations that don't work (Phils, India, Bangladesh). By the way, I'm also working for an engineering company in Kuwait.

The Arab Gulf States are the only countries in the world where modern slavery import is daily business.
They're the Brazil and Caribbean of the 21st Century while India/Pakistan/Bangladesh/Nepal/Philippines = Angola/Nigeria/Ghana/Ivory Coast/Cameroon.

Well the truth is SE Asians are treated like slaves in East Asia as well. Their wages are independent to those from "white" countries. For example, if you're from America/England/Australia you can do TEFL here, but if you're from the Philippines then no.

Because people from those countries want and need jobs badly, so they are willing to take those low wages, what workers are willing to accept, sets what they will get.

It depends on you. If you are willing to work under their conditions then you will have to work. No one can say anything.

You never heard of organizations holding passports of their employees (slaves)?

All American countries had slavery in colonial time, I am not sure only about Canada.

True but most slaves were transported to Brazil and the Caribbean islands.
