This is just my personal opinion, the US can keep this guy if they want to, i mean he doesn't even want to work to make his own ends meet....

Can't you just keep him and ignore what he does unless he is violent? We have dissenters here and no one pays any attention. As an individual granted political asylum here he is entitled under the law to receive financial assistance paid for by American taxpayers.

He was under consistent harassment (and that's an understatement) in Singapore, and when he was first arrested/detained/indicted, he was under 18, that's underage.
AFAIK, the worst thing he's done is recording some YouTube videos and post some articles on his blog. The people could've easily ignored them if they weren't interested, but the reality is that evidently Singaporeans couldn't handle it and he was prosecuted.

So imo his asylum granting is 100% justified. That's what political asylum is about: moving to another country where the people and the government can handle (or don't really care about) what you have to say.

"Taxes" is generally a very weak argument. Most of the tax money in most countries would be spent on public services or maybe some infrastructure, construction projects, funding public schools etc., a 18 year-old would barely cost anything.

And of course you can ignore what he said and did. Just don't watch his videos and don't visit his blogs?

Even if it is a small amount, it could have and should have been put to better use ...

He has hands and is a able person, but refuse to earn his own keep

Glad that we Singapore tax payers dun have to support someone who is not willing to earn his own keep

I just wonder how often the US grants political asylum to Singaporeans. We have a history of positive relations with Singapore including cultural, economic and mutual defense ties. With the Yee case we appear now to take a position that Singapore is an authoritarian state and an abuser of human rights. Will this negatively affect future US Singapore relations?

Well, since the last election Trump won, it seems pretty clear that US-Singapore relations will be going downwards. Not to mention Trump seems to have a pretty unfavorable opinion of Singapore.

Lee have been seen as a close fren with Obama. When the democrats lost and republicans won, things were clear

If the next US president is a democrat again, maybe US-Singapore relations will improve

I haven't heard any negative comments about Singapore from Trump. You need to let him open a Trump hotel and casino and he'll be your best friend forever. He's got a couple of resorts in the works in Indonesia right now.
