Do you think Manila has the richest history among Asian cities?

If you look at the history of Manila, you would find alot of influences and many nations and races have a past there vis-a-vis the other cities of the world.

Here's a summary of Manila's history from Wikipedia...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manila

What do you think of Manila's history?

I have to admit that Jerusalem, being a Holy City, has some clout that Manila doesn't have, however, historically, Manila has influences that Jerusalem doesn't have. Jerusalem's historical occupiers have ONLY been from the Old World i.e. Africa, Asia and Europe whereas Manila's occupiers have been from the Old World AND the New World, considering that it was once occupied by the Mexico-based Viceroyalty of New Spain and by the United States of America. In this regard, Manila has a more diverse history than Jerusalem.

Manila only began its "history" in 1571. before that, its just a settlement, probably just like Jamestown, but bigger with cannons guarding its bamboo walls to ward off Muslim/Chinese pirates.

Jerusalem is really ancient, with many empires holding and losing this place. the 300 years of Spanish Rule and 50 years of American rule is very "insignificant" compared with the years the Ottomans held Jerusalem

Manila already had a solid recorded history before the Spanish came in 1571.

In 900 AD it was part of the Kingdom of Tondo, after that, it became a Chinese colony, then, at the 1300s it was part of the Hindu Empire of Majapahit, in 1485, it was invaded by the Sultanate of Brunei until eventually the Spanish and their Mexican mercenaries captured the area from its Muslim rulers by 1571. In addition to the Spanish and American periods after 1571, there were also the British and Japanese periods of Manila's history.

Also, the Ottoman rule over Jerusalem is different to the Spanish rule over Manila. The Ottomans merely ruled over the known Old World whereas the Spanish were pioneering discoveries in the New World and the Far East.

The Manila Galleons...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manila_galleon

They were a fulfillment of Christopher Columbus' dream of reaching the east by sailing west. Furthermore that transpacific shiping route marked the first time when the whole world was spanned by inter connected trade routes, making Manila as among the first global cities alongside Mexico and Madrid.

An island country is unlikely to have the richest history.

In Asia, you have Bagbad, Xi'an, Varanasi, Alepo, all with rich and ancient history which make Paris and London look like new born babies, even Rome feels new.

Manila?? Are you kidding?

Founded in 1571?

Nope, I don't think it would even qualify to be among the list of those Asian cities with the richest histories.

I am not saying it has no history before the Spaniards. and I am not denigrating Manila, I live there for 15 years. im just saying that Manila is very young compared with the ancient cities of Asia

Longest existence doesn't mean you'll have the most interesting or has the richest history. Manila has become the melting pot of a heck of history between superpowers Japan, US, Spain, China name it. It has existed even before the Spanish times contrary to what you think. But I agree there maybe cities out there who has richer history but I can assure Manila and the Philippines as a whole would be one of those with richest ones.
