Dali was neat too, we spent 2 nights there last year. But, Dali is closer to Kunming and itís right on Erhai Lake, so Iím not sure Iíd say itís less touristy. Most Chinese tourists take buses from Kunming to Lijiang and make an overnight stop in Dali. I forget the name of the famous mountain just north of Lijiang, but most tourists donít go further then that, and I believe itís a more restricted area, aka, costs more to get in. That region of Yunnan is much less touristy.
