Would anyone be able to comment on availability of food and drink at Middle Eastern airports during Ramadan? I know Dubai is pretty much wide open but what about more conservative countries such as Kuwait or Saudi Arabia. Is it absolutely forbidden to even take a swig of water after passing through immigration or would that be acceptable?

I don't think they would do that. Not all Muslims can fast due to health conditions or women on their period. Children can't fast. I am sure the items would be available for purchase, but consuming in from of other people/ in public that are fasting would be frowned upon. I was in Morocco for the last few days on Ramadan once. I ate and drank in private out of respect.

No eating, drinking or smoking in public in Muslim countries – this is a strict rule and is enforced throughout the country, and people seen eating, drinking or smoking could receive a large fine.
