Hey it's cheap! If I were a 18 year old kid only interested in the beach during the day and getting drunk and clubbing at night, and getting laid, cheap beer, cheap lodging...I might love it.

I was there for a day. There are some interesting sights but you have to look for it.

There was a cave filled with penises in Railay Thailand. That's always a good time

I would definitely check out Bali.
Cambodia has it's own distinct culture and is definitely not a poor man's version of anything else. Angkor Wat is far more impressive than any single attraction in Thailand. There seems to be less guys trying to rip off naive foreigners than in Thailand as well.

To the OP, I haven't been there but I've heard from many who've visited and lived there that Phnom Penn is pretty cool.

Bangkok alone is more exciting than the entire country of Cambodia.

Bangkok is a steaming chaotic mess. Every time I've been there I've felt the urge to escape the madness within only a couple days. If it tells you anything, I was more than happy to return to Moscow IN January after a couple weeks in Bangkok. Chang Mai and the islands are much more enjoyable and worth visiting in my opinion. You can have your "excitement." I'll take a more laid back experience.

I'm not saying it cannot be enjoyed but it's stupid to compare Bangkok to somewhere like Angkor Wat. It's like comparing Machu Picchu to Chicago or the Great Pyramids to Dubai. They are totally different things.

In my experience Cambodia is a cheaper, dirtier, poorer version of rural Thailand. Even the capital, Phnom Penh, is rather provincial and boring, though the Royal Palace is cool to visit.

I spent about three weeks in Sihanoukeville four years ago. I wasn't on a whirlwind Disney experience, just chilled out. Did some beers at three o'clock in the mourning with a machine gun toting policeman. The petty thievery is worse than Thailand...passports, TV remote controls, etc...the pushy scammers maybe less so. I ate a lot of squid, and French bread...also the pummeloes were great. Beers started at twenty five cents. I would rate it better than Pattaya, but medical is lacking and you can't even find a coin washer....all that is good in Thailand. Lots if Russian mobsters there, but easy enough to avoid. The girls are nice, but lack the good teeth oif the Thai girls. Underage prossies? Yes, but not very open or in the bars. How old were Mary and Joseph? I like BKK, was out this morning and noticed how much more diversified their workforce is compared to US cities. Chiang Mai is definitely better for long term and most Bangkokians would move up there if they could; not vice versa.

I've heard Sihanoukeville is much worse with Chinese casinos.

Kampot and Battambang sound interesting though.

Thanks guys. I forgot about this thread, lol.

I didn't care much for Bangkok ... Krabi & Railay were beautiful and I hear Chiang Mai is as well.

Cambodia is interesting ... some people I talk to say they LOVE it and others can't stand it.

I would imagine Phnom Penh is where I would have to fly into so perhaps worth a check out. I think Sihanoukville can be skipped, lol

Look at flying into BKK, as Thai Smile (owned by Thai Airlines) flies twice daily to Siem Reap for about $50 each way.
