If you are into modern city life with ample shopping options & vibrant nightlife, I suggest BGC, Eastwood, Makati, Ortigas or Alabang but they tend to be more expensive than the rest of the metro. If you want the cheaper ones, you can go to Greenhills in San Juan, Divisoria or Quiapo if you are into shopping; Ermita, Cubao or QC as a whole when it comes to party and nighlife; Intramuros and the rest of Manila City for culture and history. If you prefer casinos, you have Paranaque City(but very expensive). If you would like leisure and eco-tourism and parks, you can always go to nearby suburbs/provinces such as Tagaytay, Subic, Clark , Laguna, etc. They are still considered part of Mega Manila albeit a bit farther the metro core.

But if you would like me to recommend only one, I would advise BGC for sure.
thank you for this information is very important for me I hope many citizens of indonesia who can visit manila, because rarely manila / philpines become the tourist attraction of the community in indo ,compared to other places singapore, bangkok, KL and vietnam.

Yea same here. Rarely Indonesia or Jakarta is a subject of tourism or interest in the Phils. Hope we can improve the influx of tourist from Phils to Indonesia and vice-versa.

They'll get around to that on Page 22.

Whenever there is Jakarta vs Manila thread...it takes about 21 pages of hometown arguments solely between Filipinos and Indonesians arguing to the other that they both have shopping malls, buildings, and airports....with the required 21 pages of photos to verify it.

After that is done, they'll possibly get around to the stuff that the thread is supposed to be about. Possibly. I'm waiting for Page 22 myself.

Lol the last one I know was 72 pages not only 22 and complete not only with pictures but also videos. As long as it wont turn the page into crazy battle zone then I guess we can continue. Will get back later once daily chores are done.

My opinion bangkok is not a suitable place for foreigners to invest . the most appropriate Bangkok is the right city for a trip. only 3 cities in southeast asia the most ideal for foreigners to invest is singapore, jakarta and Kuala lumpur .that's why there is a sharp increase of foreigners who invested in Jakarta recently. What do you think about this and how about Manila ?

Bangkok is the most visited city in the world. From that alone, owing to the fact that they can manage to do that, and there are so many tourists coming in is already a good sign for foreigners to invest.

When it comes to domestic consumption, Manila has the edge including BPOs. In fact the 3 brands I stated, either the most numbers are in the Phils or Malaysia (most of which are located on the capitals). Even in Indonesia where the pop is the largest they still have the least branches. These brands and other international brands are some indicators of not only investor confidence but purchasing power of the general population. Even the small Singapore has more branches of some of them in fact.

Uniqlo branches
1. Philippines- 44
2. Malaysia - 42
3. Thailand - 34
4. Singapore - 25
5. Indonesia - 13

H&M

2. Philippines - 30
3. Thailand - 23
4. Indonesia - 22
5. Singapore - 10
6. Vietnam - 2

Forever21

2. Malaysia - 5

Manila is walkable in most places except for the chaotic neihgborhoods which you can still stroll but may not be ideal to do not because it is not walkable but due to the perception that they are not safe(but not for me maybe because I am a local). Makati, BGC, Ortigas, Alabang, and parts of Quezon, Pasay, Parañaque and Manila Cities has pretty much world class areas that can compare even with Singapore and first-world cities in walkability and infrastructure which you wont see much in neighboring ASEAN cities except Singapura.

Can't speak much of Jakarta though.
Although Jakarta still in a way lags behind Manila in terms of sidewalks, we are improving fast in the sector.

(cited from quora)

Skyline is a taste of preference. If you compare the skyline of Helsinki to Manila, would you beg to say manila is better just because the there are +100 more buildings?

You can't compare Jakarta's airport to Manila's (https://www.quora.com/How-is-Ninoy-A...ort-of-Jakarta) The provided link has the best answer.

Actually the slums in Jakarta is less then Manila (https://data.worldbank.org/indicator...ocations=ID-PH) note that even though the data shows national wise, considering the ratio of the population in Java in particular and Manila, I would say this comparison still makes some sort of clue.)

And to the one who asked which city is safe, it depends on what safety aspect you are asking. Robbery and theft is common in both cities, but statistically you won't get a risk of being shot in the head in Jakarta as much as in Manila. And you won't find any security guards holding a gun (seldom) than in Manila.

Manila:

Also, according to the world bank, the homicide rate in Indo is >1 per 100,000. Philippines has 9.8 per 100,000 just to give you the broad picture.

All in all, Jakarta can be said better than Manila. And it will be on par if Bangkok in terms of transportation later on based on the development of MRT and LRT, if Bangkok transportation stays the way it is. But I'd say the inequality in both cities are on par, although I could still say Jakarta does a tiny bit better at inequality itself.
