Since Asia's population is so big, I think the minimum for an urban area for this could be at least 3M people. What are some places that come to mind? Is there one that is an absolute runaway compared to the others?

The most obvious one I think of right away is Kathmandu, Nepal. As the bird travels, it's almost within 100 km. of Everest. I think that would have my vote overall, unless there's a place I'm not considering. However, I think that there are a number that would rank pretty well. Tokyo, surprisingly, with it's access to Mount Fuji, stunning foliage, and coastline within that distance is a definite contender. Is there a city that just sort of has a "complete package" when it comes to nature around it, or just has something so superlative that it easily outranks the others? Curious to hear your thoughts! Things to consider: Green spaces/urban parks, water beauty/coastline, geology and waterfalls, forests, varied landscapes, mountains, etc.

Chengdu is a major city with unique scenes in China.

It is located in Sichuan Basin and has a flat terrain, but it is close to snow mountains in the Tibetan Plateau. When the weather is good, a few snow mountains can be seen.

Seattle fits the bill but it's not in Asia. However, I assume you are looking for that kind of city?

I can't think of any Asian city that is close to stunning Seattle.

The better ones I know are: Sapporo, Hong Kong, Phuket.

Seattle is ok but hardly unparalled or "stunning". You travel too little in Asia.

Seattle has everything, vibrant downtown, great infrastructure, high tech, skyline, mountain range, rain forest, oceans, lakes, islands, you name it.

Tokyo is just bland. It's the biggest city in Japan, that's it! I didn't see Mt Fuji when I was in Tokyo.

Are there Asian cities with beautiful natural settings? Absolutely! But most of then are small towns with nothing to do within city limit.

Interesting shots so far! Seattle is great, but I would assume there would be some close to that level of beauty, no? In addition to those mentioned already, Kathmandu perhaps? http://www.thundercloudstudio.com/Tr...du_skyline.jpg

Stunning, and eye opening pictures of Tehran!!!
