What does that have to do with Japan Rising? There is pop music in China, but most of it just isn't very good. They've got nowhere to go by up.

Pop culture can be used to spread a country's soft power. Sadly Asian countries have a pop culture which I believe is very bad, China keeps their pop culture from spreading which gives China a better outlook by the world. Japan and Korea for example are stuck with anime and other such garbage.

Well. That's an answer I suppose. There are many types of cultures that come out of these countries. Anime happens to be a very internationally popular culture. Korean music and tv is also very popular, at least in east Asia and growing in some western countries. Your personal opinion of those cultures doesn't matter at all. But those countries also have other culture exports. Japan and S korea have a stronger "soft power" in that sense then China does (at this point in history). Outside of food and maybe martial arts, I'd argue China doesn't have many cultural exports.

This is all true but it is possible for a country (like South Korea or Japan) to have a big cultural influence (with their modern entertainment) that reflects negatively on their country and makes it less appealing.

What do you think is a bigger negative? Anime in Japan, pop music in Korea, or communism in China. I think the vast majority of people find Japan and S Korea more appealing then other East Asian countries.
