Thailand isn't anything new but it's famous for warmth and tourism - it's tourist friendly so it isn't hard to deal with and a must-go.

Why any more exotic than near neighbours? Thailand has been' on the boil' since at least the eighties. Over exposed could be an description more apt. Tourism is massive. Easy place to travel and loads of back packers galore. Loads of package tourists as well.

Surely few places in South East Asia are overly 'exotic' these days?

Just back from Sarawak well worth a visit and away from main centres the term 'exotic' may still apply in some peoples eyes. But social media is most every where. One really needs to get off the beaten track or perhaps my definition of 'exotic' differs from others?

Never heard modern being associated with 'exotic' before. neither friendly. Is it really so 'exotic' to be friendly these days?

Live and learn, I suppose. Or not.

Bangkok is a big city. It has many faces like other big cities in Asia. But it is still very exotic for Japanese.
