I think very few people outside of Indonesia, would readily even equate with city of Denpasar with Bali.

I've kind of visited parts of it, not intentionally, but it seemed fine. When I've google mapped it, it also seems fine. That being said, few would even mention Denpasar by name. Few would give it much of a thought - and come to think of it, I don't hear anything either positive or negative. Just a complete absence of the word altogether when people think of Bali.

Why do you think that is?

How is DENPASAR for walking around? Places to go, on foot? Or mostly a very car-oriented city?

Denpasar just isn't known much as a city...yeah, better places in Bali, for sure. But, it is the biggest city there.

There are far more interesting places in Bali, like the northern half of the island.

North Bali: I went to Singaraja and Lovina last year. Lovina was 'alright' but quite small. It just felt like a small tiny slice of South Bali with just enough western amenities - restaurants, bars, beach, temples - that attracted retired predominately Australians. Nice little place though.

Singaraja was the biggest city up there. Not that fun to walk around. Broken sidewalks everywhere, not much to walk around and see. A very functional type of place with very little to offer.

That being said, I'd like to explore more of all of the Island of Bali.
