Calls for Tibetan independence and the end of Chinese occupation used to be all over the place in the 90's, early 2000's. Many concerts were made to advocate for Free Tibet, bands like RATM, Pearl Jam, Radiohead publicly adopted the Tibetan cause. However, it seems like I haven't heard about Free Tibet in a while. Were the Chinese authorities successful at silencing all the critics?
probably because the CIA has less money to fund their "movement".
the dalai lama is an independent figure who has said the CIA support in the 60s made things worse for Tibet and that thinks they never cared about the actual people.
The face of the independent movement, the Dalai Lama, is now an elderly man. The movement has failed to develop the next generation leader to rally around.
Yeah free Tibet alright. It was a cause du jour and now the grunge set has moved onto the #MeToo and whatnot.... Tibet is fine without them. China’s rise means a better future for poor Tibet.

Had China stayed a Japanese colony, maybe they would have fared better?
