Honest question, the seem to be working with China and the US president, buying American coal, killing drug dealers, cleaning up the streets.

If Trump can support them and not get criticized by any of the HRO then I don't really see the problem.

To a foreigner there is very little that is likely to change. The only time when it became very dangerous was during the 2010 clashes where riots broke out throughout the country and a number of popular places were hit.

While there is internal instability, none of that manifests itself in any dangerous. I’m not sure how things are following the death of their monarch last year as he was viewed by many as a unifying figurehead.

Well the new king, when crown prince, had a bit of a reputation as a lightweight , a playboy and generally not very popular with the public, to the point it had been suggested (quietly) that his sister succeed his father.

An old time expat here explained it to me more than two coups ago. The army is the government and the police are the mafia. Really, not that far off. The military has cracked down on certain forms of corruption....transferring officers, which can create little power vacuums in places, as there is confusion over who to give the brown envelope to. OTOH, it is a lot harder to find a bar open until 5am. There was even talk of the death penalty for government graft cases involving more than a million USD. There is also a special court for politicians arrested for crimes, and they have been handing out some stiff penalties. The global financial crisis came with a huge price tag that is still being paid. Food and energy are plentiful, but many households are feeling g squeezed just like Europe and the US.
