Filipinas don't care as long as you send them the cashing-cashing regularly. Just kidding and don't take it seriously though.

But seriously in the end, it would be both parties lose when one starts getting an affair with others.

At this point, I am thinking we will all live in Shanghai, seems to be some really cool areas and places to live in. I'm going to ask to be a part of the Philippines (Manila? Subic?) depot, once it starts there, as I believe the plan is to open one there very soon.
I'll cut my teeth in Shanghai, and relocate with wife and daughter to the Phils, when the time is right.

The best of luck whichever way you work it out. What part of the Philippines might they be setting up in?

My wife is a Filipina too, so if you ever plan to get down to Cebu mid Feb to mid May any year, send me a private message and the 4 of us can meet up for a chat, coffee or meal...

Good luck! You may want to visit the Philippines several times before you finally make a decision to move. Not sure what type of maritime industry you are in, but if it's an international container cargo shipping lines, then all of them open offices in Manila before they open offices in other cities/ports. Aside from Manila, the only other international ports worth noting are Subic, Batangas, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and General Santos.

Aside from MNL airport, the other airports that now have direct flights to PVG are Clark (as mentioned earlier), Cebu and Kalibo. Unless you are working in Metro Manila or your wife really likes to stay in Manila to be closer to family or she's spent part of her childhood there, I don't recommend living in Metro Manila at all. Everything is just more expensive, the traffic is horrible, and there are certainly so many things that can test your patience there. There's a new community being developed in Laguna called Nuvali that is designed to include lots of amenities but with less stress than Metro Manila, but it's not so near MNL airport. Cebu has begun to experience the same problems as Manila, but at a much smaller scale. Living in a city smaller than Cebu such as near Clark will probably be good if you eventually will do your super-commuting. Just note though that most flights to Shanghai going outside MNL is due to the recent "friendship" between the Philippines and China. These flights are introduced to encourage more Chinese tourists to go to the Philippines, as one of the "friendlier" nations. A change in mainland Chinese policy can easily lead to a cancellation of these flights (along with probability that not many Chinese tourists have interests in visiting the Philippines). The PVG-MNL flights are the ones that will most likely withstand any Chinese government action against the Philippines in the future (they were there when the Philippines was "unfriendly" to China due to the Spratlys problem).

And don't worry about the "drug wars" in the Philippines. An upscale condominium or gated community (locally known as "subdivisions") with strict security provided will be safe for your family. What are dangerous areas now with the "drug wars" were even more dangerous before with the presence of drug lords and traffickers. International media has just blown this out of proportion, but there are safe areas in most neighborhoods and there certainly are nice and safe areas to raise a family in smaller cities.

another alternative is to go only to Manila once a month but stay there for 10 days or more

As a random aside...wherever you bring your Filipina wife in this world....she will quickly find an extremely large number of the Filipino community, and have regular social commitments with them.
