for this year's holiday exploration. My family are not cold weather people so they head for warm weather. They are staying at the Westin on Bali and just got a note from them that what an amazing trip it's been for them. They are returning to So. Calif in a couple days. The boy is a picky eater, but has grown to enjoy sushi...wonder if he's having a hard time eating. Talking about how gracious the people are and how they love Americans.

People love anyone who has the money to stay at the Westin.

Glad they had a great time.

I hear it's a destination for many who do a lot of worlwide travel. Their father passed away and left his children a trust fund and they are doing the college scene and taking a trip now once a year so far. I'm glad they can start to see the world some.

That's great! One of the best things we did for our kids is travel.

It's true. Bali has a ton of amenities, and very beautiful as well. Fantastic destination.

As I have remarked so many times before about Bali - I hope they got out of the aussie tourist slum of Kuta and into the interior or the more remote beaches...otherwise they didn't see the real Bali.

Bali is an amazing place, but you have to work at it. Otherwise it's just a beach vacation 6,000 miles away with drunken and sunburned Australians as your beach mates.

Does anyone know of any video travel blogs or exposes on Youtube about Bali or anything? I'm curious about it but as someone from the U.S. that can go to the Caribbean...a place that's just known as an overpriced beach resort area for people with money trying to show off, doesn't impress me at all.

I'm sure there are tons if you just enter "Bali" in youtube search.
But the attraction of Bali is that it's amazingly cheap, which is why you get so many tourists from nearby Australia. It's like Cancun for Americans. The distraction is the Australia indeed just thinks of it as a cheap beach vacation with cheap beer and cheap lodging, that works for them. But Americans don't want to travel 6,000 miles to lay on a strip of sand, you can do that in the States.
The trick is to NOT think of Bali as a beach vacation, in fact avoid the beaches and leave those Australians behind, get out of Kuta at least. It's a big Island full of culture and history and beautiful landscapes, start in Ubud in the interior and use that as your base.

Just put it in the youtube search engine - there are hundreds of thousands of them. I wouldn't even know which to recommend. It's one of the most well-known and highly touristed islands in the world - so yeah, tons of vblogs and everything else.

Regarding 'just an overpriced beach resort'. Ahmm...yeah, you should read about Bali. That's like saying NYC is just another city with shopping. Ah, yeah, that is there....but....

Anyways, there is nothing anyone can really say that about Bali, that you couldn't do a quick youtube or google search for, and visually see or read about it, with significantly more information to it.

But, Bali is a significantly bigger experience than just a tourist resort.
