Bonifacio Global City is part of Metro Manila, but it feels like a completely different country. I was extremely impressed with it. It's clean, walkable, with all kinds of food, shopping, art, entertainment, and green spaces. It's 240 hectares, so it's a pretty big area. It seems to be half built because there's still a lot of construction and infill.

This travel vlog gives a good overview of the central part of BGC. Starting around 4:30 in the video

Any other similar developments in Southeast Asia already built or being planned?

There are similar devt going on in some other cities in the Phils like the one in Iloilo Business Park in Iloilo and other CBDs in Cebu both in Visayas and upcoming in Pampanga with the Clark Green City with the same organizations developing BGC.

But wait, isn't Singapore as or more vibrant than BGC? I always thought there are areas in Bangkok and KL that are similar.

Btw BGC is the Phils made right. If only the whole Phils could have BGC-like devt all throughout then Phils can give first world countries a run for their money. Sadly its not yet that way.

Are you Filipino or not Mr/Ms OP?

Looks bland and manufactured. All generic with skyscrapers and contrived streetscapes. Ugh.

It only started being build 10 years ago, so that's why it looks like that to you. It was originally a military base, so it was completely built from the ground up. Even though it's new, it still has a lot of character and interesting architecture. There are large sculptures and murals all over the place, and lots of green spaces integrated into the city. And of course it's mostly skyscrapers because in a city with not a lot of room, you have to build up.

And what is contrived about the streetscapes? It's mixed-used development, with stores and restaurants facing the streets. It's very walkable, unlike most of Manila. People think a place can't be "authentic" Southeast Asian unless it has trash everywhere. If this city were in a Western country, people would be praising it for how nice it is, but since it's in Southeast Asia, you have people complaining that it's too clean and not "authentic"

It's clean. It's more pedestrian-friendly than car friendly, but it also has an efficient bus system. There's lots of green public places to hang out

There's interesting architecture

If you notice on the last one, one of the buildings has a blank canvas on it. A lot of buildings have a dedicated space for large murals like this

They're all over the city. This video shows the street art more in-depth. He's in BGC starting around 1:20

There's also a lot of large sculptures

All kinds of stores, restaurants, and bars right on the street level. There's also a science museum.

There's a "Venice" area, which is not my favorite concept, but it looks nice at least

The best clubs in Manila are there, like the Palace Pool Club

It also has a nice skyline
