I would say Tokyo overall because it is a fun and exciting world class city with a variety of unique neighborhoods and plenty to do. I also like Yokohama as a close 2nd (and it literally is a close second city just outside the Tokyo city limits). Yokohama is a nice clean city with a beautiful skyline by the bay. Tokyo is like a big cluster of smaller cities that each have their own skylines.

I LOVE Tokyo- there is so much to offer and you can never really get bored of it. I really didn't like Yokohama. I felt that it was overrated, and there wasn't much to do. I loved Kyoto (how could you not!?) and I also found Naha interesting in how Americanized it has become!

I've only been to Tokyo so far, and I love it there, so I'd have to put that as my favorite. Hope to work there (preferably not as an English teacher) as soon as I graduate UW.

I've been to most of those cities. The thing about Japan is that they are ALL good.

I voted for Kobe...but actually, on that list, I also really like Yokohama, Osaka/Kobe/Kyoto, Fukuoka and Nara the most.

Nara is small, (it's in Okinawa), but has an interesting flavor and really good 'okinawa tacos'...kind of fusion food of mexican, american, with a japanese twist in preparation that is quite interesting. Plus you got a really nice beach right there, even if it is under a highway, it is still quite nice.

Yokohama and Kobe remind me of each other. Both with the coastline and mountains.

Anyways, it's all good in Japan

Whichever one is the least "modern" in its physical environment and the most traditional and whichever one has the most historical sites and best cultural-artistic life. Japan is one of the few places I have never visited and I would love to see the more rural side of it and more historical/traditional aspect of it. I was in Tokyo very, very briefly and hated it on sight. I am told Kyoto has some wonderful temples.

Other than my wife's hometown, I went for Hiroshima. The history and the people were very interesting and friendly. Kyoto is absolutely beautiful as is Nara. Tokyo has a lot going on but is very modern and crowded. My wife hates going there.

I have never been to Japan, but if I had to pick, it would be Sapporo. Something about it in the winter is amazing from the pictures I have seen. The pictures of the mountains are rather nice.
