This is the statecraft playbook. People need to understand that China is not so much a communist country, it's a mercantile country. Everything is focused on that, this "secret war" is focused on one goal - to make China great (again?). Protecting and expanding it's economy, self-interests, and hegemony.

Not to say all countries follow this playbook to the same degree. Not having a free press and public dissension to worry about, they are much more free to be much more aggressive and unethical - stealing technology, propaganda, trampling on human rights. However I see China as being much more hesitant on the use of military force, proxy wars, etc. - being a mercantile country, China knows that wars are simply bad for business.

Xi is making the US regret that it ever cozied up to China. Great job Nixon and Clinton!

On a related note, Xi has been quietly "refocusing" Chinese history to lessen the importance the father of China's economic miracle, Chairman Deng.

All hail Chairman Xi! From whom all prosperity, stability, truth, and justice flows!

Trump should shut off the trade spigots completely. Xi has confirmed the CCP is not a trustworthy partner nevermind an institution that is trustworthy as the globe's hegemon. The CCP's "mandate of heaven" is economic growth, and it's time to knock the rotten house down and let the Chinese replace it with something better.

If you mean China vs Eastern Europe, Korea, Japan...they're free. But China vs (country where nsa spies on the people and people can't drink from bottle in public). Or China vs country they ban porn (UK). The anglosphere doesn't seem free. Only the EU tries to be as non-free as them but they can't match their level either since laws against freedom of speech are always neglected in europe for obvious reason: freedom is top priority in europe.

I don't know about that. Some european countries have state religions or forced secularism. I also don't think freedom of speech is as protected as it is in the US.

In the "free nations", it's common to find a Bible in hotel rooms placed by the Gideons. Of course this is not allowed in China. I just visited China last month, and the hotel room where I stayed has provided their own version of the Bible there. Thoughts of Chairman Xi is prominently placed next to the hotel's room service menu. Didn't bother to ask if it was free to take home, as I didn't have that intention anyway.

China is over one billion people, now officially world's biggest economy since this year. Obviously America will hate them.
