Hi!

Which regions or countries do you think of primarily when you hear/see the word "Asian"?

It's interesting that in the UK, Asian is mostly associated with the Indian subcontinent, whereas in the US, as far as I know, Chinese is one of the first things that come into mind when you hear/see the word Asian.

Grüsse

If I imagine Asian, I'm thinking about Japan/China/Vietnam.... Most of all probably Vietnam, because at my last school I had a lot of Vietnamese friends there. Very good people. Than I imagine China - First I imagine Great Wall of China, than low quality goods. If I imagine Japan, I can see a crowded metropolitan cities with huge traffic, than probably some dragons, sushi, etc.

It's interesting that you include Oceania and Hawaii.

Thank you for the responses so far!

I think of East Asia & Southeast Asia:
Japan, North Korea, South Korea, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, etc

I never think of India, the Middle East, or eastern Russia (and former Soviet countries), even though I know they are in Asia. Probably because most people I know who are Asian are from east & south east Asian countries or have that heritage.

I think mainly of East Asia. But I just don't like the term "Asian"; it's way too general for my tastes. Each nation has its own unique culture.
