On Bantayan Island you might be hours away from full medical services, around the main cities in Cebu that would not be a problem. Little different from small town America, except you will, need to take a boat probably not fly given the financial info request instead of drive.

Thanks for the information. Most likely I will be staying in U.S.

Likely your best choice, as much as I love the Philippines and the people, I always bring a few high available balance credit cards with me whenever we go, to make sure that we can get hospital care in an emergency. The Philippines IMO is a wonderful place but it is surely not for everyone and definitely not for anyone who needs constant medical treatment or has health issues, thus why we were supposed to move there full time when I turned 65 but by that time I had already known it would not be for me for a full time life, maybe consider a visit.

I'd stay away if you're old, poorly funded and have chronic medical problems. Have heard several stories about ex pats with great expectations who have had medical emergencies and had to ask for financial assistance from friends and family to get on a plane to the US and their Medicare benefits.

worked in a bank in the early 90s in Makati, Metro Manila. I helped an American get his SS automatically credited to his local account.

I asked him why he doesn't want to live in the provinces where the cost of living is cheaper.

he answered that he doesn't want "counting the stars at night" and prefers the amenities of the big city

Yeah, there are plenty of places in the US as affordable as Manila, but not if you like a big world class city. I mean the city where I live now the cost of living is about the same as Manila, maybe less, but people who love living in a huge city wouldn't like it here. Manila is still a lot more affordable than New York City. It gets you more bang for your buck than San Francisco, New York or other northeastern metropolises. And it's more "urban" than Houston or Dallas.

I am going to guess that you would get more answers asking that question in the Health Insurance section
