Zhu De is not George Washington to people on Taiwan. Hu Lien (胡璉) closer in your analogy.

But it all started from you in saying Hu Shih should be pinyin.

Hu Shih didn't spend one day in PRC. His descendants are neither one of the 1.4 billion. So why should his name be modified to Hu Shi to suit the 1.4 billion?

Using the old logical fallacy of appealing to popularity, I see.

Zhu De isn't relevant to people on Taiwan in terms of history, period. Your chauvinism isn't going to change that.

Hu Shi spent most of his life in mainland, not in taiwan. and 1.4 billion out of 1.5 billion chinese in the world live in mainland china. how difficult is it to understand? modern chinese is the chinese spoken in mainland china. Ping yin is used by 99% of the chinese speakers. the other forms, whatever it is called, are only used by 1%

More people in the world know who George Washington is.

Hu Shih spent his whole life in ROC, Mainland or Taiwan. Why does his name need to change to suit the need of people in PRC?

The only justification is politics overrides literary value.
His article is used for grade 7 or 8, or kids at 13 or 14 years old. Very suitable and totally legitimate.

what you mean by keeping differentiating PRC or ROC? they are like different periods or administrations. It is like saying you need to change language system if you change from republican administration to democratic administration in the US.

ping yin system is used in modern chinese. it is not a thing just for PRC
