No, that area is not a megalopolis. I used to live in Hong Kong, and my parents just moved back to the US after living in Macau.

Hong Kong and Shenzhen are connected, but neither place is connected to Macau except by a 1-hour turbojet boat ride. There have been talks about building a freeway to connect Hong Kong to Macau, but it's probably a pipe dream. Right now, it takes HOURS to drive between Macau and HK.

Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Guangzhou will probably become a megalopolis long before Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Macau.

Yeah but Hong Kong and Shenzhen are still so different. Shenzhen for all of its development is still so PRC.

The Hongkies have a good thing going on. Macau is cool, but there isn't too much to do there unless you really like to gamble.

For Shenzen, Hong Kong, and Macau to be one megalopolis it would be the equivalent to Japan Greater Tokyo with Osaka and USA BosWash. Pretty impressive for China.

Which obviously many love to do, hence Macau having 4x more gambling revenue than Las Vegas!

as for the thread, shenzhen to guangzhou is fairly developed, but zhuhai to guangzhou has A LOT of empty farm land, at least it has everytime i've done the trip.
