Saudi Arabia's religious police have announced a ban on selling cats and dogs as pets, or walking them in public in the Saudi capital, because of men using them as a means of making passes at women, an official said on Wednesday.

Othman al-Othman, head of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in Riyadh, known as the Muttawa, told the Saudi edition of al-Hayat daily that the commission has started enforcing an old religious edict.

In Islam dogs are seen as dirty animals not to be touched.

They really can't hide behind that excuse anymore. On the Military channel, footage shows that almost every single Muslim family that they show in Iraq has at least a few dogs running around. They are contradictory.

You know they all have satellite dishes watching American and European tv programs with scantly clad women. But in public their women aren't even allowed to drive.

Because under Sadaam, Iraq was officially a secular country.

Many may proclaim themselves as Muslim, but that hardly means they are practicing Muslims, let alone abide by every Muslim code there is.

Dogs have been taboo in the KSA for a long time. No new news there.
