Not just construction laborers but many others..........

From the hotel clerk, to the cleaning lady, to the bar maid, to the escort girl, many are lured there under false premises and when they get there they have their passport siezed and are forced into slavery like lifestyle where they work for money and a huge percentage of that goes towards their "captors", who expect to be paid back thousands of dollars for their "services" and upon the pay back will give their captors their passport back so they can do whatever they want then.

The authorities turn a blind eye to it because cheap labor is part of their huge economic engine and many authorities also indulge in the scam, especially in the prostitution business. So going to the authorities offer little or no escape and most likely compounds the problem for the captors.

And yes, its not only Dubai that these scams occur in.

Freedom? I wish I went to where you went, there is no freedom in Dubai as, let's say, Cancun, Mexico! I'd rather much go to Cancun, get plastered, maybe get lucky on the beach even.

We all know about the morals police and what's happened with people having fun on the beach in the Emirates. In Mexico you might get applause, or told to leave, but not deported, fined, or imprisoned.

Again, freedom?

I just saw a story on Dubai on "60 minutes" they recruit cheap laborers from India,Pakistan, etc. paying them $4-5 dollars per day. Laborers have no rights what soever.Living squalors are of course terrible .
