Now they have a Chinese gymnast who claims she is 16, yet detective reporters found web sites, in Chinese, that raved about her, and listed her at age 13. Guess what? Those web pages are now shutdown, and no one will answer reporters questions. When asked about it, they say she is sixteen, and 'we don't need to discuss this again'.

Maybe in China they can get away with saying 'this does not need to be discussed again', but not the rest of the world. Look at the girl, she barely even looks 13, yet alone 16. Another gymnast also has a birthdate of Jan 1, 1992. How convenient.

Default Just gossip, really.

I'm not really complaining, I don't really care to tell you the truth, I'm just reporting what I see in the press. However, my inclination to post here is based on the fact that I do notice a higher ratio of negative posts regarding the US in this forum, so thought I'd try to balance, and contribute by casting some back.

My expediency in reporting this is as great as is yours in reading these posts. Don't people have anything better to do than to read these posts?

The opening ceremonies and the games themselves are two different animals to me. Fudging some fireworks and wanting your anthem to come off sounding and looking "perfect" to the rest of the world is not unreasonable.

The cheating is a problem. Why even compete in the games if their spirit is lost along the way. But as an American I need to think before I get too upset about some supposed 13 year olds competing in a sport where 16 is the minimum age. Two examples come to mind immediately-

1) Marion Jones returning all of her medals in shame- and

2) Somewhere along the line a committee somewhere decided that professional basketball players needed to represent our country in the Olympics because we got tired of losing.

Hate to say it but the "spirit" of the games was probably lost long ago and I just finally saw them through different eyes.

Default not a big deal

why wouldn't they sub in another girl? the whole world was watching, why not impress the world? i would think the US would do the same thing. also, why are we worried about that when people are starving and being murdered for no reason in other parts of the world?

I doubt the US would do the same, we would all be out raged by it.

You can't really complain about China. I mean the US cheat and I am pretty sure every other country cheat as well.

I treat the opening ceremony just like Hollywood.....special effects.... people do not die, people do not fly.

Lip-singing happens all the time... remember Ashlee Simpson messing up on those NY shows?

Marion Jones was on dope and steroids when she won her gold medals.
