There are more young people who are into Japanese culture, because of anime, manga, and all sorts of popular items that have come out of Japan in recent years.

Japan, for sure.. they have been getting easy Visas to the US for decades. You buy a Toyota, you are accepting Japan culture, at least a little.

I´d wager to say Japan...China is seen as a rival to many, an enemy to some. Japan and the US have enjoyed good relations since...well, you know when...
