There are lots of chemical plants in America. I want to know how these plants protect the environment in America.

They don't. Who told you that they did?

Most chemical plants have to follow strict environmental guidelines for disposing (= getting rid of) their wastes. We have a government agency in the USA, called the Environmental Protection Agency, which oversees chemical companies and their waste disposal.

For example, plants that put out gases such as nitrous oxides and sulfur oxides must use scrubbers, which remove most of the bad gases. And plants that release hot water to the environment, must cool the water down a great deal before releasing it.

We have time difference. It's sunny today. I find that my family have been living in a bad environment. There are too many chemical plants around my country. The local government have no idea to solve the problem. Those plants are always illegal to put out waste gases. I want to find ways to improve our city's environment.
