It is simple science:

The article says.

Quote:
The statue was constructed with a steel frame that was surrounded by styrofoam and covered with a fiberglass coating to protect it.
Steel frame (fantastic conductor of electricity), surrounded by styrofoam (chemical which when melts is an accelerant), fiberglass (cracked on the lightning strike which separated and exposed the foam core)...

Jesus was standing tall in the air like a lightning rod and lightning is attracted to metal, they say don't go to a golf course in a lightning storm right?

And there you have burning Jesus.

Quote:
One of the chief dangers of using Styrofoam is its flammability--it catches fire and burns more easily than most insulation materials.

The Jesus statue/lightning rod was hit, but the nearby porn store was undamaged.

That was an odd choice of materials. I mean, styrofoam? I can melt that with fingernail polish remover!

God probably meant for lighting to hit the porn shop.
But he must have had a cheap GPS unit that was off a few degrees.

Maybe it was some new kind of lightning that heads upward, out of the Earth.

Jesus vs. Lightning -- A Brief History of Mother Nature's War on the Son of God - Asylum.com

Not only did Touchdown Jesus burnt down but apparently Zeus is still pissed at jesus in General, hes dropping lightning on anything that represents Jesus. Hes struck down other statues of Jesus as well as a plack with Jesus' name and even a kid named Jesus. Bottom line Jesus attracts lightning
