There is no hatred here, only compassion and hope. I'll pray for your soul today.

Default News flash: The world in not flat!

I'm glad I don't subscribe to a book written by people who thought the world was the center of the universe and hell was inside the earth.

I wonder if they thought that because of volcanoes... Maybe when they saw the lava and the smoke and fire - they thought it was from Hell.

I don't think it is so much 'tongue in cheek' as it is a very likely scenario. Deities and gods were invented in the minds of men to explain things they had absolutely no explanation for.

The sun, shows up over there, cross the sky, disappears way over there. How? why? will it come back? what controls it? All without even the hint of an answer as man had zero understanding of what made the sun to move.

Logical solution for the time, invent a god that controlled the sun, a goddunit moment. Then worry worry worry, what if I make this god mad, and it withholds the sun tomorrow. I better come up with some rituals to worship this god to keep it happy............. and thus was born religion, springing from the loins of fear and ignorance.......... and so it continues today.
