Hello everyone,
The other day, i was thinking about my atheism, and couldn't help but feel proud! proud of the fact that i was smart enough, and educated enough to break away from the chains of mass religion, Moderator cut: Deleted.

I started to think that if you really consider it, it's not really a huge thing that I (and many others) have accomplished by renouncing religion/God/etc.....afterall, we simply are saying 'no, i don't believe that there's an imaginary being out there watching over me'...but for some reason, i still feel proud that i was able to determine that for myself and at an early age (sort of) at that.

I wanted to see if anyone out there shares the same feeling....it's hard for me to really explain how i feel about this...but i'd love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers

I wouldn't necessarily say I'm 'proud' to be an Atheist...to me, it's the only sensible platform of belief.

It's not so much a pride thing, but a feeling of self worth, satisfaction in having a clear view of the universe, without having to always view it through tainted, but very foggy glasses of some absurd belief system.

I know my moral compass is derived from within, and not some external fear driven set of rules.

But as JJ put it, it's just the only sensible conclusion that ever crossed my radar screen.

I wouldn't say that I take any pride in just being sensible enough to disbelieve myths...I have never enjoyed being controlled either by governments, religion, or by other people...That's probably why both of my marriages failed...I'm much happier when I control my own life.

Is there a possibility you are wrong?

You know what, I am proud to be an atheist.

I am proud of the way I turned around years of brainwashing and became a free thinker.

I am proud I now have a belief system based on logic and humanism.

I am proud that I overcame the chains of religion that held my mind captured in a prison.

I'm an atheist and am not afraid of being wrong. I was afraid in the past when I was a believer. I'm no longer 'god-fearing'. I'm not so much proud as happy that I overcame the religious illusions of my younger days.
