"Nothing" by Nina Lalli. Her account of growing up an atheist. At least that's what it's supposed to be. I found it very self-obsessed, recounting very ordinary child and adult experiences, and not very thoughtful about atheism at all. A great disappointment.
Anyone else?

No, I haven't. I've read Christian No More, which was more of a rant, I thought. I'm reading Losing Faith in Faith right now. Haven't even heard of Nothing. I guess it's not worth my time, eh?

No, certainly isn't. It almost seems like she wrote the book to slam her fundy in-laws (who sound like they need slamming).
The name is Nica, not Nina. Sorry.

I grew up not believing anything so I don't think I need to read about someone else growing up not believing anything.

She actually said very little about growing up believing nothing. Half the book was self-indulgent anecdotes about her precious childhood.
I grew up not believing anything, too. I always thought everyone else was just giving lip service (and still often do). My father was ethnically Jewish (never set foot in a temple after leaving home) and my mother was a lapsed Eastern Orthodox/Catholic. No mention of beliefs or lack thereof- it was just sort of like they forgot to raise me, preoccupied with their own mess. My mother forced me to Jewish Sunday school for a few months for form's sake. I was eight and pitched such a fit, they let me stop. It was idiocy to me- burning bushes, etc.
I look forward to a better book about atheism, that's for sure.

I'm reading Sam Harris' "Letter to a Christian Nation" for the second time in a week. Direct and so logical. Not too intellectual, which gives me a headache........

I just added it to my reading list, eloyfan. I finished Losing Faith in Faith by Dan Barker last week. I would give it 3.5-4 stars. It wasn't as bitter as some of the other conversion books I've read, and he brought up some interesting points.

Our library doesn't have Nothing. Guess it's just as well.
