Default is atheism an "unorganized" religion?

what do you all think. atheists believe in nothing, but nothing is still something. atheists believe they know for a fact, what no person could possibly know. they claim to know the unknown. I'm more of an agnostic, in that I admit that I don't know the unknown. atheism to me is an unorganized religion. it's a group of people believing they can predict the unknown.

Sounds good, I believe that. Believing in nothing is something. Who cares what people believe as long as they are good to one another?

Absence of belief is not belief, thus atheism is not a religion.

Atheists believe that there is no proof of God and thus don't believe there is a God. No one is predicting anything.

And yet they have group meetings and organizations. I was at a restaurant once and there was an atheists' meeting. I posed the question, why do you have to meet to discuss a non-belief?

So does that mean AA is a religion? What about a sewing circle? Or a football team? They all have group meetings.

Oh wait, maybe it's because like-minded people want to be around each other to discuss a topic of mutual interest. Wouldn't that be nutty?

Hope you got all that.

I never said it was a religion. I said it was odd that they would meet to discuss NOT believing in something. Do you get together to NOT sew or NOT watch football?

I have to disagree with you a bit, Atheist prefer proof before believing. I, being Agnostic, believe the "unknown" is too vast to completely rule out a supreme being.
Atheist have no religion nor the need to gather for support in their belief of not believing, therefore, IMO, being Atheist is being self contained. I don't know of any Atheist groups who have killed in the name of......????
Well, do you see how this plays out?

Again, IMO, for an Atheist there is only the self, the real and the tangible. No need to fight for something that is not only obvious but a "fact". I like Atheist; they govern themselves and do not have a fantasy to redirect responsibility.

Atheism is religious in the sense that it is a comprehensive worldview
which seeks to explain the 'why' of existence. Because it has its own
creeds, their own 'scriptures', their own 'clergy', and thier own
closely knit groups for organized discussions / agendas , it is
correct
to label atheism as a (secular) religion even if the particular individual is
not
a member of any atheist organization per se . This may not be well
recieved amongst atheists because a major reason for thier apriori
philisophical bias against a personal Creator is due to the stigma
associated with the religious in society .

Consider these facts about atheism practiced socially :

1. It is highly organized thruout this nation. There are many large
Atheist Organizations that would love a greater constituency.

2. There are even Atheist Camps thruout the nation with a well
publicized large one in Ohio.

3. They meet regularly to discuss local and national agendas which
include the ridiculing of Theists and Christians (when they themselves
know that every design requires A Designer and Human DNA requires a
Programmer., et al....)

4. The Atheist Organizations collect dues regularly just like Churches
collect free will offerings on a Sunday to cover overhead, expenses,
activities, and material distribution.

5. They have very large national Conferences yearly just like Church
Denominations do. A very large one was held last year in Colorado.

6. There are active Internet Atheist NG's to educate followers in the
sheer impossibility of matter and naturalism accounting for the many
many complex designs and engineering of our Universe, Solar System,
Planet, Human Bodys, DNA, et al...

7. They collaborate to build up each other in their freewill chosen
lifestyles the same that Church Members build up one another in
following and obeying Christ as a lifestyle.

8. They want macro evolution theories taught as 'scientific fact' in
public schools without ANY time for Creationism ; whereas Creationists
want both to be presented so students can make a clear and concise
decision based on rationale and what REAL science has discovered.

9. Most National Atheist Organizations have logos, flags, and
banners...the same that national Church Denominations have

...and 10. They have Museums located around the Country that show well
prepared artistry on fancy posterboards how apes gradually turned into
cave-men that turned into modern man (despite the fact that no
observation has ever occured for macro-evolution , to which even atheist guru Prof.
Richard Dawkins freely admits . Normally included
in the Museums are the various dogmas associated with natural causes
and
natural explanations...even for incredibly complex designs as well as
for highly complex informational messages as are found in DNA
molecules,
molecular motors of cells, etc.. which can ONLY occur from intelligent input .

I find that many proclaimed atheists just want to stay with 'We simply dont believe in a God or Gods' , as an excuse for not sharing the necessary alternative to a personal creator...which is : everything occured by random accidents involving naturalism and materials
----- a philosophy which they know is utterly absurd, impossible to the highest degree , and totally non-defensible from scientific scrutiny .... yet IS conducive to ones chosen lifestyle of not being morally restrained. As a proclaimed atheist of 10 adult years, this was my motive . In fact, there really is no such thing as a true atheist because the faith required to believe all this highly personal complexity came from non personal rocks, dirt, planets, chemicals occuring from a random big explosion for no good reason....is completely non sensicle . But people will go to all sorts of lengths when thier personal desires are threatened and challenged ; its a pride thing. Regards.

This should be a staple in our way of thinking. I'm not a member of anything, but the human race. As are we all. We are all 'in the dark' as to origin, let alone religion. All we have to do, is be good to each other. Strip everything away, and we're all we have. Simple.

People in AA get together to NOT drink.

Anyway, you clearly missed my point. A group of like minded people getting together to discuss something of mutual interest is not odd at all.
