I've seen numbers as low as about 25% and as high as 70%. What percentage of Americans age 18-29 claim atheism as their religion/worldview?

I'm in that group and no way is it 70%. It MIGHT be 25%. Of course I live in the bible belt so that may skew my estimates a little bit.

All of my friends (ages 20-30ish) barring one are basically irreligious. They may not claim Atheism, but they really don't care about religion. One of my friends goes to church on a semi regular basis, but eventhats sporadic.

I am liking the unaffiliated trends. It would be great if America were one day caught up with western European countries in this regard.

I believe there's a big gap between those who claim atheism and those who are atheists. In many circles in society, it is socially damaging to "come out" as an atheist, so many "closet atheists" just go through the motions to avoid condemnation.
