Many people over the centuries have used "God" as a shield to justify their racist practices. Rick Perry is no different. He and his ilk have no place in dictating policy in this country.
I don't think Perry should've gotten any media coverage here. What he stands for has never been right for this country. The protests are justified.
Perry *will* get media coverage because he is the governor of Texas. There is nothing we can do about that. Of course, the protests are justified. The group that sponsored the rally is a hate group.
In his defense, I'm sure Rick Perry hasn't read the Bible even once like most "Christians". He knows only what his pastor(s) have told. After all, Jesus was against running "prayer advertisements":
5 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
- Matthew 6:5-8
