I'm actually surprised that it's only 61%. We must be gaining ground.

Just another example of our country being mired in the mud, behind western Europe, Japan, etc.

If fewer people here believed in God, we wouldn't be ignoring climate change, we wouldn't be as mired up in the Middle East conflicts, and we wouldn't be cutting into our revenue with tax breaks for religious organizations.

The world is a better place without "God", but the U.S. can't handle it.

The voting record of the American public is nothing that should be held up as anything to be proud of.
Does it really matter, for such a pittance of people eligible to vote actually vote.

Combined with the fact that you just can't fix stupid.

Example, the complete idiots that think that twit from Wasillia if fit to hold any office with more authority than dog catcher. She left some of her makeup behind;

61% of Americans say that they would be less likely to vote for an atheist.

Not surprising, but what surprises me is that 46% would be less likely to vote for someone who had an affair. As if being an atheist is the worst of evils.
I'm surprised that being an atheist is less popular than being gay.

Would Americans be more likely to vote for a Muslim over an atheist? Or a Scientologist over an atheist?

If any politician came out of the closet and claimed his atheism we would all know that at that particular time he was telling the absolute truth.

I would have to agree with him on a little more than that to give him my vote.

Which is why people lie all the time about religion and why you shouldn't believe anyone. We bring this upon ourselves and then blame the people who would be hurt if they told the truth.

I must say that 61% is a better percentage than I was expecting. Particularly when there is still such a long way to go in overcoming a lot of misperceptions.

What's truly silly in wanting a President who isn't an atheist is that most politicians probably don't give a **** about God. They go to church in order to maintain a certain image, nothing more. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these guys are atheists themselves.
