Ive noticed that alot of atheist or agnostics such as myself, have been raised in a religious home or have a religios background. When you decided to be an atheist, How did you tell your religious family/freinds??? Was it hard to do so???? When and if you did openly declare your Atheism/Agnosticism, what kind of reactions were you met with???

For example, I was raised in a semi-Christian home and as ive gotten older, I would consider myself to be an agnostic. Now, not very many of my freinds and family knows this. My aunt and uncle are fundamental Christians and Ive not told them my views. Its not really because im ashamed or anything, I guess I just dont want the hastle of having to them say they will pray for me or worse, that Im going to hell.

How have other Atheists and Agnostics handled this???

There have been multiple threads about this subject, but I will tell you this: Your true friends will accept you as a nonbeliever. Go back into the archives.

You are an agnostic? Well you could have fooled me because you are the first I've ever seen that uses that bogus fine tuning argument, supports intelligent design and in another thread call yourself a agnostic/deist...Moderator cut: personal One of your posts..

Do you know what an agnostic is? Perhaps you should look it up and the word Deist for that matter. Both terms fall right into place with on another. Im Agnostic because I dont claim to know for certain that there is a God, but I do beleive there is. Deist because if there is a God, the Deist beleifs are how I beleive that God to be. The fine tuning argument is just "evidence" for lack of a better word, or rather, an argument that supports a Deistic God

Sorry, but none of this makes any sense. And given the rampant misspellings, I'm having trouble taking it seriously anyway.

Then you are theist not agnostic. Agnostics have no belief either way regarding the existence of gods. They say there is insufficient evidence on either side to make a decision. You clearly believe in the existence of gods/God. You are a believer and therefore ...THEIST.

If you believe there is a god, then you are NOT an agnostic.
