any sapeient being with free choice has the ability to be a Devil(a Shaytan). We meet them daily if not more often. For most of us the shaytan that causes us the most harm, we can see in the mirror.
Shaytan is very real, and not necessarily a supernatural being., it is you and I when we allow our own inner destructive thoughts to be in command of our actions, words and thoughts.
Hello.
Is there any devil ?
Or dark consciousness ?
The devil is merely a fabrication and one of the oldest I might add, that the human brain invented in order to deny responsibility for his actions, something that even modern man does to this day. Except now, the devil takes the form of addiction or disease. Look at tiger woods, instead of accepting responsability for his infidelity, he blaims it on a sex addiction. The same goes for anthony weiner or whatever. etc. etc.

Am I the only one noticing more New Age, metaphysical references on this forum? It's weirding me out. I think of myself as a materialistic atheist, and I don't buy any of the foo-foo words for neurological psychological happenings. Perhaps my mind has just not been opened.
If one defines devil as a synonym of Satan, absolutely not. I don't believe in the devil. If one defines it, as Woodrow does, as "you and I when we allow our own inner destructive thoughts to be in command of our actions, words and thoughts", I'd ask for clarification of "inner destructive thoughts".

Unbridled selfish responses to our inner drives irrespective of the harm they inflict on others.

I'm not trying to be argumentative; it's just that this sort of language is vague to me and in need of clarification. Are you saying that it's the response that is the devil? It seemed to me that others were saying that it is the emotion itself that is the devil, which I believe is total garbage. I'm not sure I can agree that responses are devils or evil or demonic or wrong or whatever.
Also, does "others" refer strictly to human beings?
