Interesting interview of a person in the field of science who talks about the benefits of getting rid of religion:
Free us to talk more about morality and ethics.
Focus on personal and social "happiness".
Focus on compassion instead of rule books.

Interesting perspective that believing in god is a way people make themselves feel important.

And! The video is only about 9 minutes long.

Can a person be defined as an ‘atheist’ if they believe in things like an afterlife, reincarnation, psychic powers and other things beyond the material, and therefore outside the purview of natural science?

You asked for my religious philosophy a couple of days ago and then totally ignored it.

there is no doubt that engineering a truth requires thinking about things as they are and how the conditions may change.

Could you send please just answer the question? How can you identify as an atheist while holding the beliefs you do?

one only has to not believe in a deity. atheism has a wide range of beliefs and personality types expressing many beliefs in many things.

Yes, I agree with that.

Things beyond the life we know do not have to center around a god.

I didn’t refer to any deities. Why did you bring God into this?
I asked about your beliefs in non-material things that are outside the purview of natural science. Are you saying that belief in things like reincarnation and psychic powers are compatible with atheism? Many atheists would say that’s not true atheism.

I don't care what you say.
I don't care what "many atheists" say.
I'm an independent human being, unlike you.

And once they figure it all out they’ll write it down in a book and so on and so forth.
Years later, people will reject or rebel against that book and whatever non-belief system it prescribes.
