As do you, but like the respondents in that poll of bigots, you are dead wrong. All the poll indicates to me is that religion, particularly Christianity is at the root of most prejudice and bigotry.

I suggest that you research the religious demographics of the US prison population if you really want to see who is most associated with immorality, including criminal behavior.

Go see my post about Rick Perry. He's the epitome of Christianity gone wrong with prejudice and bigotry.

Default Two many people are voting

(Note that I'm not categorizing voting against him because he's such a devout theist as a negative decision in this case, because he's a little frightening...but of course that shouldn't be the sole deciding factor.)

Default Do we need an Athiest for President?

Do we need an Athiest for President? (or someone even Athier that that?)

No. A predominately atheist senate would be much better.

Doesn't need to be an atheist, but one that can leave his imaginary friend out of big decisions, like starting a war by invading a sovereign country, cause their invisible friend told them to.

Quote:
I am driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And, by God, I'm gonna do it." George "Dumbya" Bush - August 2003
This level of utter ignorance has no place anywhere in society or government, for this ignorance is what has tipped this country past the tipping point on our long and painful slide to our self-destruction.

I think that it would be awesome if we did. Either that or at least a person that is secular--Obama does seem pretty secular, though he has stated many times hes christian.

Distrusted by whom? Christians? That's rich isn't it! LMAO funny!

That's like a bunch of pigs finding distrust for the butcher, of course they would. I wouldn't trust an Atheist if I were religious. Who'd want to find out the truth after living a lie for so long. I'd feel stupid too. Just imagine the fear an Atheist with any power to speak publicly gives a religious leader. The blind leading the blind is much better. Imagine being lead by someone who can see? Oh My God!

You make a great point with this post, Thanks

To the op: It would be nice if we eradicated God and religion from politics period. I would love to NOT KNOW the president candidates religion or lack of, anymore than I want to know their sexual preference or practices. None of it matters imo, just the issues that come with running a country. Not running other peoples faith or relationships.

And like the people in the study, you do so in utter and complete ignorance and a life time of being programed to fear those that don't share the irrational fears of a god that behaves as a mix of a spoiled brat and a deranged monster.

Without hesitation I will tell you that as an atheist I have a higher true moral compass than anyone whose moral behavior is controlled by the irrational fear of a vengeful god.
