God is a person created by people or is an emotional act created be people to self govern ourselves into not destroying ourselves. Similar to acts of looking left and right while crossing a road created by experience gained from others in a similar way monkeys learn to crack nuts from other monkeys.

Similar to...
Similarly to how we now have speed and red light cameras looking down on us from above.
Having actual live policemen at each intersection doesn't do nearly as good a job...
nor does that come anywhere close to the revenue now generated.

The only thing better is self regulation through fear of the bogeyman.

Of course god(s) are man made, and if you put yourself in the place of the ancient people that made them up it makes sense.

Man understood literally nothing about the reality of the real world; why the sun rose an set, weather events, disease, death, etc. And there was a great deal to be afraid of and no knowledge to combat the fear.

Thus "things" that controlled these unknown forces were thought up, and they became gods.

Today we understand most of the things that scared our early ancestors, and now fear the gods that were created to explain the unknowns, which is the ultimate is mindless stupidity.

While there is a lot of talk about 'God' as being a sort of vague idea about a cosmic reality linked with First cause reasoning (I'm being polite, here ) that is a quite different argument from the man - made gods and religions.

Cosmic sortagod is what we know nothing about about -not even whether it amounts to anything deserving the 'God' label. The various specific gods that are attached to the various religions, we can know something about - that they have every appearance of being man - made, human inventions and false.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Religion is a crude tool for "connecting the dots" and coming to a working understanding of life and one's place within it.

Science is actually the evolution of that tendency and seeks to fill the same psychological need, just in a different way... if religion was a hatchet, science is a chainsaw, though both are for cutting down trees.

From Jethro Tull's Aqualung album, pretty good stuff;

In the beginning Man created God;
And in the image of Man created he him.

2 And Man gave unto God a multitude of names,
that he might be Lord over all the earth when it was suited to Man.

3 And on the seven millionth day Man rested
and did lean heavily on his God and saw that it was good.

4 And Man formed Aqualung of the dust of the ground,
and a host of others likened unto his kind.

5 And these lesser men Man did cast into the void. And some were burned;
and some were put apart from their kind.

6 And Man became the God that he had created
and with his miracles did rule over all the earth.

7 But as these things did come to pass,
the Spirit that did cause Man to create his God
lived on within all men: even within Aqualung.

8 And Man saw it not.

9 But for Christ’s sake he’d better start looking.

Don't agree - religion is politics - it's all about getting someone to believe certain things so you can control them...no one creates God - same as humans did not create the eternal universe. AND if you believe that God is a person - you have not done much thinking about what God or all of creation is - God is NOT a human being - nor has the atributes of a common human - It is beyond comprehension..and is to be respected as such - what human beings did to attempt to explain what God is - has always been the bain of the human experience...we just can't do it...so why bother - but as you have done - You humanize the whole concept in order to feel comfortable with something that is awesome and beyond belief.

Aaaaahhhh... Yes. And, if one does a little research into the oldest civilization known, one learns that rulers were appointed by GOD. There was even a test by which one would prove being fit to rule. That was thousands of years before the ancient Hebrews came along. Before the Flood. Before kingship followed the blood line.Guess they invented someone to tap a guy on the shoulder and tell him he was the new ruler, huh? And, every year, the king had to prove he was still fit to rule.

I agree. If we call that 'Nature' and 'God' is reserved for the anthropomorphic creation of human - devised religion that we won't get confused.
