I'm not sure this is something I'd do or not. I guess I shy away from organizing of most ideals. It is nice for those who enjoy those mass meetings though.

Not sure if I would go either. (I don't like crowds!) I think it's great that it's happening at all though. Progress!

I think it's valuable for atheists to "come out" where they choose to, so non-atheists can see, as one poster wrote, that we "don't eat babies." The more someone knows/likes/co-works with a person whose type/belief/orientation was formerly thought to be vicious or sinful or filthy or whatever, the harder it is to hold onto those prejudices.
Until I can vote for an atheist, I hope people continue to come out where and when they can.

Absolutely something to support, whether a smiling, happy atheist or an angry atheist (I'm both) there needs to be the same activism as there was with civil rights, gay rights and womens' rights. The rights of atheist to be atheists without discrimination, distrust and general diss. Time to start improving on the axiomatic '8%' minority figure.

Default We've come a long way!

Actually, if Atheists start grouping up and acting like churches, we've just gone in a big circle.

That's sort of how I feel. While I'd like to disband the hordes of groups meeting in the name of anything, people are free to do as they wish. I just believe in individuality more than group mentality, my personal belief of course.
I honestly don't think exposure to our niceness will improve their outlook, their outlook is based on fantasy. I think if one meant me they would say the following, "who could've guessed that nice lady is a devil", one never knows where Satan lurks. lol

Seems to me that organizing atheists would be a lot like herding cats.

I would enthusiastically support it as long as this "rally" stays in realm of creating an environment for coming out. And perhaps making step for a bit of social change.
The only thing that makes me hesitant is the fear of this rally being somehow turn into something political. Remember this is being held in D.C. and anything there can be twisted to suit political expedience.
